I’m a modern day poet
Most people forgot
Just what a poet is and
What it is not.
It’s not pretentious-sounding prose
Arranged like a poem.
It’s real thoughts and feelings
Finding a home.
It’s a little like a dance
Where characters show
Not masked and not tasked
With the pretensive load
Required when admired by the
Wrong sort of folk.
We gotta deal with the real
And give the people hope.
