Small pink shoes but so much more
Converse All Stars
It’s vivid in my mind
Taking you there
To the mall
Me on my own, Dad,
Buying them for you.
You were tiny and today,
It seems like such a responsibility
For a man so young
With most of his growing
Still in front of him.
Those shoes were symbolic,
Of the life I wanted you to live.
They were a part of who I was,
Given to you.
They were the music that massaged my soul.
They were the band T-shirts that were my style
They were all the lessons I intended to teach you
But I never got to.
Evil is brutal.
And when Evil forces itself brutally
It defeats good where good is committed to only doing to others
What you are willing to accept done to you.
And so I lost you.
But I still have those shoes.
I can’t throw those away.
For somewhere within me,
That Spring of Hope still lives.
