The Leviathan

Arthur Rackham
1908

I’m going to post the twitter thread I created earlier that led to this poem at the bottom.

The Leviathan was a dragon.
Just read the tale in Job.
Of impenetrable armour
And breath of fire and brimstone.
It’s the same motif with which you are
Probably very familiar.
You may not realize it is the same
As Beowvlf and Grendel,
Or St. George and the Dragon
Or even Zeus with Typhon.
And even older tales
Of Apollo slaying Python.
Some of these stories have evolved
In different cultures, sure.
But they all have the same origin.
Just different allures.
