I once was on a ship at sea
When the man on watch cried out,
“Monster off the port bow!”
Then men began to shout.
It was the middle of the day.
The creature, clearly seen.
The beast had rows of razor teeth
And looked a palish green.
He crept up to the ship and the look
Of terror on men’s faces
It’s not something one simply lives with
And at some point just erases.
But the monster in perfect English said,
“Good gentlemen, hello!
I’m so glad that you broke up the monotony below!”
