The Seven Sisters looking decidedly Mediterranean dating this piece of art to no earlier than the Dorian Invasion into what we now think of as “Greece”. Even in Homer’s day they didn’t call this Greece though.

The lovely maiden Maia—
Forlorn and lost at sea.
Daughter of lovely Pleione—
And somehow lost to me.
Her father, Atlas, held the Heavens
On his great shoulders, believe.
In the land there by the Sea.
They named it after He.

Once were Seven Sisters.
Now Six. Can you believe
That 100,000-years-ago
Was the last time you could see
Seven Sister Stars
In the bright Pleiades?
It sort of surprised me.
That story was ancient to the Ancient Greeks.

edit: I was doing some further reading on the Seven Sisters because I’m always trying to learn more and I learned that Maia was the Romans’ Spring Goddess for which the month of May is named. I was so excited to learn that I had to share it.
