I learned so much since I saw a travel vlog on YouTube where a South American señora said that she is Catholic—not Christian. I live in the US so I had never even imagined anyone would make that sort of distinction. So, I started digging and discovered why Martin Luther did what he did! Catholic vs. Protestant was a racial situation y’all. Melanated individuals were labeled ‘Catholic’ and decidedly un-melanated ones ‘Protestant.’

It’s why Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights is described as possibly Catholic.
