What is Woden doing
Hanging out up there?
From the branches of the Tree of Life?
Like He don’t have a care?
Come down, here, my Lord.
It’s Your day.
Tell me what to sing.
I couldn’t really get an answer
From ChatGPT.
It suggested No Quarter,
But it doesn’t use your name.
Immigrant Song is about your Son,
And that’s tomorrow’s aim.
-Benjamin Stone
I was trying to find a song to sing Woden on Wednesday and a poem was born from it. It’s Hump day after all. So a little extra on the top is appropriate.
The image of a god dying on a tree might be familiar to you if you read Greek and are familiar with the gospels. I wrote a song about that I’ll link here.
But Woden is Mercury. Jesus is the Sun. It’s just a difference in cultures. The men who conquered the Woden worshippers worshipped the Sun. Going back to ‘ol *Dyḗus ph₂tḗr — the Father of the Daytime Sky. That’s some ANCIENT knowledge. Based on Linguistics and tradition.

Odin hanging from Yggdrasil when he’s clearly needed. Don’t worry though. You can’t kill a god, can you DC Comics?
Bonus: I just realized I now know how to spell Yggdrasil now.
The point is its the same MOTIF. Inanna is Venus. So is Alice. But you can tell the same story with Hercules or with Odysseus. The point is to understand the meaning behind all the stories. That’s TRUE reading literacy. You no longer read Moby Dick. You realize you are reading an allegory of the unsustainability of the whaling industry. And that’s not even Melville’s most popular novel. Typee was.
