Sing — A Poem About Music, Companionship, and the Sun & Moon

Relief of Sol Invictus with Luna, 2nd–3rd century CE (Roman Imperial period)
Found at the Thermae of Trajan (Terme), Rome
Current Location: Museo Nazionale Romano – Palazzo Massimo, Rome

I want to bathe in the sound of music—
Breathe in those blissful tunes—
Inhale the sounds of song
On this lonely afternoon—
I loathe the sound of silence. I need
Notes to fill the void.
There’s a certain hint of loneliness
I’d much like to avoid.
And if you’d come and stay with me
We’d enjoy life for a while.
Beat the heat in Borneo—
Bathe in the beautiful Nile—
We’d gravitate ’til morning as we’d
Welcome in the dawn.
Songs of Blissful merriment
Would stifle every yawn.
For listened to alone, a tune,
Can only mean so much.
It’s in the act of enjoying it together,
That lets us feel the Love.
For nothing gifted to someone
Can mean as much as tunes.
It’s why I sing incessantly
To the Sun
And to the Moon.
