Goddess of Creation

The goddess of creation in her might,

She Blessed us all with this true miracle,

The gift of life which all her creatures own

All of equal worth.

She elected Man to warden her creation.

To look over and protect every living thing.

But Man, long ago, forgot this charge.

Instead, he found greed.

Man was made with built-in fatal flaws:

Whenever Man has all he really needs,

He keeps obtaining from a sense of greed—

Unsustainably—

And although our species has an expiration

And that day inches closer by the day

By some miracle, we haven’t done the damage

That would destroy life on Earth

And when we’re gone, again, Earth’s life will flourish

Our roads and cities occupied anew

We’ll be gone but there’ll be something living

Everywhere we were.
